Sonia Merino studied chemistry at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) and obtained her Ph.D. in 1997. After a postdoctoral stay in the research group of professor Jean Pierre Majoral (1998, CNRS, Toulouse), she became to the UCLM at Ciudad Real where she was promoted to “Prof. Titular” in 2003 in the Department of Organic Chemistry. In 2005, she was awarded the “Ibn Wafid de Toledo” Prize for young researches of Castilla-La Mancha. Her research interests lie in the area of dendrimer chemistry, especially those with photoluminiscent properties as well as catalytic and biomedical activity and are currently focused on new hydrogels based on graphene.
